Forensic Interviewing

Forensic Interviewing is, simply put, the search for the truth. SungateKids provides expert forensic interviewing services to child victims of abuse and to the agencies that investigate the allegations. The Forensic Interviewers at SungateKids are trained experts in the art and science of interviewing children, and have extensive experience as such. Their expertise makes the process less stressful for children and more effective for the investigative and judicial systems, while putting the needs of children first. SungateKids uses a multidisciplinary team approach to conducting forensic interviews, which results in a more complete understanding of case issues and the most effective child- and family-focused system response possible.sungate-kids-safekids_SK2_children-programs

Family Support Coordination

Children brought to SungateKids for forensic interviews are automatically assigned to a Family Support Coordinator, or “FSC.” Family Support Coordinators provide initial crisis intervention and ongoing support, community resource referrals, information about victims’ rights and assistancw with victims’ compensation applications to the child victims and their families. Family Support Coordinators work normal business hours, but are also on-call and available at all times for emergency cases.

Finding Your Voice – Support Group for Adolescent Girls

In late 2008, SungateKids began working with the Arapahoe County Department of Human Services to fill a critical gap in services in the community. Unfortunately for the population we serve, there is a serious dearth of support group services for children who are victims of sexual abuse. Support groups can be extremely effective, particularly with adolescent girls, who turn to their peers more than to adults for support. As a result, SungateKids began efforts to implement a support group for adolescent girls ages 12-15.

artIn September 2009, SungateKids offered its first support group, called “Finding Your Voice.” The group was such a success for the girls who participated in it that we are offering it now on a regular basis – along with a concurrent group for the parents and caregivers of the girls.

For more information on this group, contact Steffanie Walstra, SungateKids’ Family Support Coordinator responsible for managing the group.
